New psychiatric intensive care unit aims to meet shortfall in mental health services
Plans have been unveiled for a new £5.5m psychiatric intensive care unit in Exeter.
The facility is earmarked for the site of Wonford House in Dryden Road and would become a central hub for mental health services run by Devon Partnership NHS Trust.
As part of the proposals, the trust would also build a new specialist mother and baby psychiatric unit on the same site – a service currently unavailable in the area.
Planning permission for the scheme is currently being sought, but it is hoped it will help to meet a shortfall in mental health services in the county.
